Descending from Jerusalem in less than 30 minutes via Judean Desert we will arrive below sea level to the lowest point on Earth, the Dead Sea. We will drive via the Inn of the Good Samaritan & Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, and view the oasis of Ein Gedi. At Masada we will explore the remains of Herod’s Roman Era, and the remains of palaces and a bathhouse. We will spend the rest of the day relaxing at one of the Dead Sea beaches where we can float in the salty water and lather on the Dead Sea mud, which is highly recommended by dermatologists.
If you have already visited Masada, and are looking for an alternative, we have the option to visit the Ein-Gedi Nature reserve, an oasis in the middle of the desert near the shores of the Dead Sea. We will hike up to the waterfalls and swim in the fresh water.
Another option is to visit the Baptism site Qasr el-Yahud (in Arabic “The Palace of the Jews”) marked by tradition as the site of several Biblical events: The site of the Baptism of Jesus, the place where the Israelites crossed the Jordan River to enter the Holy Land, and the place where the prophet Elijah ascended to Heaven.
